Toy Industries of Europe (TIE) celebrates the United Nations General Assembly’s decision to designate June 11 as the International Day of Play. As longtime advocates for the value of play, we are thrilled to witness its formal recognition by more than 140 countries.
“Play is not just a pastime; play is crucial for children’s growth and well-being,” said Catherine Van Reeth, TIE Director General. “Despite its recognition as a right, many children still lack the space, time, and encouragement to engage in play. The UN’s endorsement serves as a global call to action for governments, organisations, and parents worldwide to prioritise and support initiatives that ensure every child can enjoy the great benefits of play.”
The inaugural celebration will kick off in 2024 and continue annually thereafter.
